New Deans Seminar (Chicago) Sold Out
The New Deans Seminar is a "must-attend" event that provides insightful advice on how to handle the first few years as well as interactive discussions regarding expectations, career path, strategic planning, and Ó£ÌÒµ¼º½ Accreditation.
This is your chance to talk about the things you can't discuss on campus. Get a head start in your new role by building trusted relationships and expanding your network with others. You will have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with experienced deans who have been through the process as well as make life-long colleagues.
This two-day event will prepare you for success, no matter what your goal as dean may be.

Who Should Attend
New, interim, and acting deans of three years or less.
This event is exclusively for new deans and heads of higher education business units (the highest academic authority or official of the business unit). Registration substitutions replacing one individual with another individual for the same event) will not be granted for this event.
Facilitators
Wanda Costen, Queen's University
Wanda Costen, Dean of Smith School of Business, joined the Queen’s University community in July 2021. Dr. Costen is known for being a champion of inclusiveness in business, and her collaborative approach to leadership brings a unique combination of experience in academic leadership, research and teaching, as well as senior management roles in the private and public sector.
Costen engages and collaborates with community and business leaders, and university faculty, staff, students, and alumni as part of her ongoing commitment to ensuring Smith School of Business research and teaching prepares its graduates to meet society’s changing expectations of business. Costen earned a Ph.D. in sociology at Washington State University, an EMBA from Pepperdine University, and Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy, and has undertaken research in areas such as managing diversity, racial and gender inequality in organizations, women and leadership, and strategic human resources. Costen’s passionate belief that businesses can drive positive social impact has made her a catalyst for partnerships between academia, business and public organizations on diversity initiatives and training programs throughout her career. Costen is on the boards of the Kingston Economic Development Corporation, as well as the Business Schools Association of Canada (BSAC).
Ed Grier, Santa Clara University
Ed Grier is the dean of the Leavey School of Business. Previously the dean of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Business, he successfully transitioned his corporate expertise to academia resulting in national attention and rankings for the VCU School of Business and a renaissance of corporate and community partnerships. Prior to VCU, Ed spent 29 years with the Walt Disney Company where he served in a variety of progressively more responsible roles around the globe. Most recently, he was the president of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim California where he oversaw Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the Paradise Pier Hotel and Downtown Disney, comprising nearly $2 billion in revenue, 20,000 employees. A sought-after speaker on topics including diversity, leadership, and corporate creativity, Grier earned his B.A. in accounting from Duquesne University, becoming a certified public accountant while at Ernst & Ernst (now known as Ernst & Young) for four years before joining Disney.
Tanuja Singh, Loyola University New Orleans
Tanuja Singh is provost and senior vice president of academic affairs at Loyola University New Orleans. Prior to joining Loyola in July 2020, she was dean and professor of marketing in the Greehey School of Business at St. Mary’s University. She also was a faculty member and department chair at Northern Illinois University’s College of Business. Singh is a sought-after speaker on topics including the future of work, organizational strategy, women in leadership, and workplace diversity. She has published over 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. She is a co-author of the book Surfing the Rift: An Executive’s Guide to the Post Web 2.0 World. Singh received the San Antonio Business Journal’s Women’s Leadership Award in 2018 and the Leadership Award by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2015. She was inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame in 2017. She is the primary benefactor and honorary chairperson for a rural school in India that educates disadvantaged boys and girls. She has an MSc in physics from University of Allahabad, an MBA from Millsaps College, and a DBA from Southern Illinois University.
